Edwards Opera House

Sweet Adelines and
Goldenaires

July 24, 2004

I was anxious to hear this style of music in the Opera House, it was great.  No mics, no amplifiers, just the pure sound of four part harmony executed skillfully and in great variety. A total of 44 performers were present for the evening, dividing the show into four segments. The Sweet Adelines were very dramatic in their bright red sparkling costumes but also surprisingly witty, telling fun stories and jokes between tunes. The Adirondack Harmony Company, a quartet within the Goldenaires was next.  They performed classic barbershop with loads of humor mixed in. After intermission, Sentimental Journey took the stage, Trout Lake's own Ken Reger and his three partners left the audience wanting more after their half hour set.  The Goldenaires, about 22 members strong, including Edwards native Joel Hopper and Trout Laker Don Blount rounded out the evening with great songs by the entire chorus as well as the quartet that took center stage for several great numbers. The Goldenaires were joined on stage by Sentimental Journey to perform a wonderful patriotic song to conclude the evening.
